Mad Science Birthday Party!

My son turned the big 1-0 this past week, and to celebrate, he requested a Mad Science birthday party!  Mad Science came to our house and did some science experiments with the kids.  They loved it!

I bought the kids disposable lab coats and safety goggles to wear for fun.

Instead of a cake, I made a Jello brain.  To get this color, I used cherry Jello and replaced a little bit of the water with evaporated milk.

I used filled petri dishes with blue jello and gummy worms.

I made cake pops topped with silver sprinkles!

I set up a little table for the kids to make their own goodie bags (not everything is pictured here).  I went to the Dollar Store and found different size vases and candle holders to put all the different treats in.  I also found fake eyeballs and glowsticks there.  I got silver Sixlets and silver gum balls at Party America.  There was also gummy bears, gummy worms, sour belts. jelly beans, hard fruit candies and lemon heads.  I was so busy with work and the kids just starting school, that we decided to just keep the party just family.  I managed to get all of this together in just a few days(thank goodness for Amazon Prime!).  All the kids really loved Mad Science and my son has already requested for them to do his next birthday and my daughter is asking for a Mad Science party as well!

Washi Tape Keyboard!

A few months ago I saw a photo of a keyboard with all the keys covered in washi tape and fell in love with the idea!  I finally had some time to sit down and cover my own keys.  I picked a few of my favorite patterns and colors and really love how it came out, what do you think?

One last thing....I just joined Instagram, so if you would like to, follow me!   I'll be posting lots of pics of new items and little projects there as well as sales and specials!

Time for some catch up!

Well it certainly has been a while since I have done a post!  With the recent passing of my grandfather, I put many things on hold to focus on family time, especially with the kid out of school for the summer!  I have a busy week planned to catch up on blog posts and get the many products listed in the store that have been sitting in my office.  I hope everyone is having a great summer so far!

Our Hello Kitty Themed Flight

My daughter is a HUGE Hello Kitty fan so I was pretty excited when I found out that we would be flying from Taipei to Tokyo on a Hello Kitty themed plane!  EVA Air teamed up with Sanrio for their 20th Anniversary and fly between certain destinations in Asia.

Going to check in!

Boarding pass

The plane

The headrest

Pillows

Soap and lotion in the bathroom

Little cups in the bathroom

Even Hello Kitty toilet paper!

Napkins and eating utensils

I think the face was a fish cake

Ice cream

There's a few photos I wanted to take but didn't get a chance to.  The flight attendants wore Hello Kitty aprons.  The safety cards and headphone bags had Hello Kitty on them.  They also gave us Hello Kitty "Passports" which were little notebooks.

MT Expo in Taipei, Taiwan

We had a great time in Taipei and Tokyo, but I'm so glad to finally be home! We're still dealing with terrible jet lag, especially my one year old, so I haven't had a chance yet to sort, photograph and list all the new tapes I brought back. Soon though, I promise! I thought I'd share some photos from the MT Expo in Taipei! I brought home a lot of limited edition tapes from the event.

The event took place inside Eslite Bookstore.  The stripes on the buildings and dots on the windows and doors are all masking tape.

The escalators had stripes of masking tape on them.

The floors as well.

The elevator.

One corner was lined with all the different patterned and solid tapes MT has (this was not all of them)

The ceiling.

A tree and dragon on one of the walls.

A window display.

There was an area to decorate your own little box with masking tape.

Sone of what I brought back!  More posts to come!

Quick Washi Tape Birthday Tag

The kids were invited to a birthday party yesterday and I made this tag right before we left.  I just used a plain white tag and used MT's Black Alphabet Masking Tape and Decor's Black Diagonal Striped Washi Tape.  I cut out the letters I needed from the alphabet tape, and since it's repositionable, I stuck the unused letters on a piece of cardstock to use later on another project.  I then took the striped tape and wrapped it around the edges of the tag.

I wrapped the gift in green tissue paper and attached the tag with twine!

Washi Tape Inspired Hand Carved Stamp

I've been stamping for years and have purchased a few hand carved stamps on Etsy.  Just the thought of hand carving a stamp is so daunting, but my cousin recently told me I could purchase a little carving kit, and that it was actually quite easy.  So I bought my kit and this was my first attempt at a hand carved stamp!  I picked a really simple design, striped washi tape!  The hand carved stamps that I've purchased look so smooth and clean...mine is pretty rough looking!  But for my first time, I'm happy with how it came out.  Hopefully the next one I have to share is much prettier!  For anyone interested in trying it out, I purchased the Speedball Speedy Carve Stamp Making Kit at my local Michael's craft store.

My First Bento Box!

In all my hours and hours of searching for things to do in Tokyo and Taipei, I came across a lot of things Bento related.  There's a lot of blogs all about kawaii (cute) kid bentos.  And with E starting school in a few months, I thought it would be neat to send her to school with a cute bento box every now and then...and I already did some shopping :D  While she was out on a bike ride with dad today, I put a quick one together for her lunch, my first time making one!  I bought a Hello Kitty bento kit so it made it pretty easy.  It came with rice molds, nori punchers and a template.  For Hello Kitty and her friends, I used sticky rice, nori (seaweed), turkey and salami.  Then I just added some strawberries and edamame in the box.  She was so excited to see this box on the table when she got back!  Needless to say, I'm sure I'll be coming back from my trip with lots of bento tools!

MT Factory Tour and Expo 2012

I'm so excited for my trip to Taiwan and Japan next month!  I've been searching for places to see and where to go shopping.  Last week I found out MT is doing a Factory Tour the week I am in Japan!  So I signed up for the tour, but apparently it is a lottery system, so I don't know yet if I will actually get to go on it.  I was completely elated when I found out today that there will be an MT Expo in Taipei while I'm there, and I will definitely be going!

While on the subject of masking tape, there's a few things I am hoping to find on my trip!  There's a masking tape printer, Coharu, that I would love to get!  It's a tiny compact one and so cute!

Coharu is made by King Jim.  MT also teamed up with King Jim and made Tepra Pro.

I am also hoping to get some MT Wall Tape!  I would love to be able to decorate my office with this!
